Dear Chimp,

I agree with you: kidzzzzzzz... Rolling Eyes

@Hollywood:
I just noticed that my second email to you bounced back as well! Since there is no personal information in my email, I was so free to post my response here, so that others can chip in, too, if they feel like it.

This is my response to your question whether the CXP could be modded to run with an 11.1V LiPo and what parts would be needed. It is based on my past experiences with different components:

The CXP is based on the M4 split box design, so "YES" it can take an 11.1V LiPo with some upgrades, which I just finished installing on another ICS M4 (not mine, though Sad ). The mods (or better "upgrades") are only needed in the upper gear box and are therefore quite simple to do.

Recommended shopping list:

- G&P polyacetal piston ($20):
http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_75_393&products_id=25949

- Polycarb or even an aluminum piston head ($20):
This is what I currently have: http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?products_id=27703

This is what I have in reserve in case the head breaks: http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?products_id=25961

- Guarder spring SP110 ($13):
http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_62_331&products_id=25909
(The goal is 400 FPS and the SP120 is very likely too hot -- mine is -- and shoots only 20 FPS more than the SP110; not worth it if you want to play on as many fields as possible. Wink)

- Metal spring guide (JBU works great!) ($16):
http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_78_402&products_id=28192
(Notice that some other "metal" spring guides may have a polycarb shaft! This one is completely made of metal and has an opening at the base, which allows you to put your screwdriver in there when you install the spring! You'll know what I mean once you do the installation.)

- Tappet plate ($12):
http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?products_id=26920
(The ICS tappet plates are known to be brittle. Avoid SystemA tappet plates ("Area 1000"): they are even worse because I had already 2 snap on me. Besides, they are a little bit tighter than the King's Arms.)

Finally, also recommended is a MOSFET with active braking (~$30):
1. http://www.awsairsoft.com/index.php?page=sentry&menu=products
2. http://extreme-fire.com/SW-AB.html

I have actually built several of them for my upcoming (?) Case Report that are being used and tested by some people right now. MOSFETs prevent premature breakdown of the trigger switch especially with higher tension springs and can increase the ROF due to decreased resistance! This requires rewiring.

One question you have to ask yourself: Where do you want to put the LiPo? The PEQ box may not be big or thick enough for a big 11.1V LiPo. But maybe you don't need a "big" LiPo Wink. Having the battery on the side of the stock like in my case means you need to completely rewire the gun to the rear (new wires needed).

On a different note: You can see that ICS's split box design (similar to SystemA) is a fantastic base for any mods and upgrades. Not only is the upper gearbox quite sturdy and it alone nearly weighs the same as a complete Tokyo Marui v2 gearbox, but if anything breaks (and that's mostly a stripped piston or broken tappet plate), you can quickly replace the components without having to deal with the electrical system and gears! And if for any weird circumstances the upper gearbox cracks (because it takes most of the beating), simply replace it with a new one. The naked upper GB runs at barely $22 (http://www.blazingtoys.com/ics_parts.html), so the repair is only a minor financial setback compared to other brand name guns for which you have to buy the complete GB ($100+). Speaking of brand names: I already mentioned to you that there were several people who had problems with their KWA, and even "Lord Chaox's" KWA M4 has now a cracked gearbox, although the gun still shoots happily. (Sorry, no pics -- didn't have my camera with me.)

Anyhow, I hope this answers your questions Smile.

Edit:

What I forgot to mention is the piston mod that is recommended not only for high speed setups. Basically, you trim the 2nd piston tooth by 50% and the 3rd by 30%. This is what some people recommend from a structural point of view instead of shaving off the 2nd tooth completely:

ICS CXP M4 DSC03956GPPistonshaved_s

Before doing the piston mod, I have seen many marks on the 2nd tooth indicating that the sector gear has indeed run into interlocking problems. Not anymore with the reduction of the 2nd tooth. BTW, when you used my ICS, the ROF was at 23.5 RPS shooting at ~385 FPS w/ 0.2 g ICS BBs, which are ~8 FPS lower than TSDs!

Also, to distribute stress on the front of the GB more evenly, this mod is recommended:

ICS CXP M4 DSC01935Gearboxv2StressRelief_s

Does it help in real-life? I don't know since I haven't seen any tests, but I'm sure this 3-minute mod doesn't hurt... Very Happy

Evike.com seems to have the CXP in stock:

http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=40&products_id=29963

It's interesting that ICS is now including an M120 spring stock! Battery space is again one of those problematic issues...

BTW JAWS... that's an excellent case report, and as soon as Rod Roddenberry sends me my check for patches made, I will indeed be buying the ICS M4 CXP, then coming to see you. Wink

You sent him patches? COOOL! So you're going to be his exclusive patch distributor for his store, huh? tongue (But please don't forget my labels Wink).

I can't wait to hold your "baby" in my hands! That's going to be one heck of a gun! bounce It probably won't need to much of an upgrade since it already comes with an M120 spring and very likely with some other stock upgrades to play well with that spring...

Heck, let's just hook up an 11.1V LiPo and see how long it can sustain that ROF. Stock up on BBs! *LOL*

Jawz

PS: Did you already sell your LiPo and charger? Shocked

Awesome finding, Tunnelrat! Now this package looks super attactive!

Even my CQB pistol is significantly cheaper (also ~30 bucks):
http://www.kapowwe.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ics-29&Category_Code=Airosft_AEGs&Store_Code=R

But I don't think they offer free shipping, although that should run only around $20.
