M14 EBR "prototype" barrel is done!
This one is made of 303 stainless (what I had on hand). I received a 5' bar of aluminum late last week, so finished parts are coming soon. This is 7/8"dia x 18" long with 14mm right hand threads. The proto weighs about the same as the OEM part, so aluminum will drop a considerable amount off the front end. I'll still have to come up with a "gas tube", but thats next.

That is freakin sexy as hell man. nice job. My only question is about the silencer. is that part of the barrel or is it one you put on. and you said 14mm right hand. is that the silencer threads? and by right hand do you mean counter clockwise or clockwise? Oh and how much modification will the inner barrel require? I was thinking of grabbing the 650mm one by madbull from evike.

The silencer is one I had on hand. The barrel is 18" so you'll need one. 14mm right hand threads (normal "righty-tighty-lefty-loosy") are on the muzzle for a silencer/flash hider. Again I can make this too, at any length/dia/style you want. The inner barrel won't need any mods as long as it's made for an M14.
If not we can adjust the locating flats to work, but the hop-up window should probebly be in the right place to begin with. I don't know how well modifying this would work. Best bet- get somthing for an m14. Now I'm just waiting for my lath to open up and I can make a couple "real" ones. If you can track one down, buy two and maby we can do a barder deal for the gas tube and/or the silencer. The gas tube wont be hard, but it will be a bit of work. I really should have thought of this when we first talked. The good news is, your gun will work fine with out it, so it can be added later for looks and that cool clanging noise when you release the bolt!

the only barrels ive been able to find that say "for TM m14" are like 500mm which is like 19.5 inches. I'm going ot e-mail evike and ask about the mad bull 650mm's compatibility with the ECHO 1's. Also since the barrel is 18" we need a 192mm(7.6in) extension for a 650mm inner barrel. closest ive found is 210mm so far.

Knucklehead, would you be able to make a barrel for a real carbine like say... a Bushmaster M4?

this is the reply i got from evike.com
"The barrel is too long for the gun. 550mm is the longest barrel you can use for this gun. Anything longer will create a vacuum on the BB and cause you to lose a good deal of FPS.
Thank you,
Tech @ Evike.com"

Thats BS. They don't really test these things.

I've been using a 590mm barrel with standard full cylinders for a long time. how do you think JG was able to produce M16's with ported cylinders?

so far this is the colosest flash hider ive found, but its like .6-.7 inches short:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_39&products_id=3161

also found this:http://www.cobraairsoft.com/product_info.php?products_id=3266&osCsid=41985ecb2f923def4e324831ee242269
but its out of stock everywhere

This m60 flash hider might be long enough...key word is might i cant find a definite length:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_39&products_id=3038

And this one is a bit longer but we would know for sure its long enough:
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_39&products_id=2488

gimmie an e-mail or text if you come up with anythign better.

I'm surprised at all that Evike responded to an email Twisted Evil . Aside that their tech "rep" is not great either.

Well, I'm sure you could use a very long barrel with a full cylinder. But (by any chance) have you ever chronoed the difference between

a) a full cylinder with let's say a 509 mm (regular M16) barrel and
b) a full cylinder with a 590 mm barrel?

The question is not so much whether you can do this (using a 590 mm barrel with a full cylinder), but whether you would really lose FPS (which was Evike's response). I personally cannot give an answer because I haven't done any measurements myself.

I like this one! So.. I'll make a couple long enough and maby even squeeze in a little more coolness! In the mean time I'll make you a "generic" can to cover/protect the end of your TB.

I've seen that flash hider a while ago. Although it looks "wild" it may not be very practical in woodland because it might get caught on branches and bushes... Something to think about.
